Description
The construction of this new cavalry district began in 1680 and took place in several phases. The first phase saw the erection of four large wings, one of which has been destroyed since, arranged on each side of an interior courtyard. Two of these buildings overlook the ditch, which is now the Verdun course. The other two wings, at the rear, were oriented towards private properties. They have many openings on their facades overlooking the courtyard. This military architecture, for its time, is innovative because it applies the principles of Vauban which aimed to optimize the layout of barracks thanks to a greater number of stairs allowing better traffic of soldiers.
