Oms : Saint-Jean parish church the Evangelist

In 1628, the church was under the jurisdiction of the Saint-Jean de Perpignan collegiate church, which perceived the tithes. The elements dating from the Romanesque period, probably from the 12th century, include the nave and its semicircular gate with several rolls, as well as the semi-circular apse and the base of the bell tower. Two side chapels, vaulted with hanging keys, seem to have been added to the 14th or 15th century, while another chapel, located in the north, is more recent. Outside, the Romanesque church is distinguished by the great height of the apse, whose concentric base exceeds. On the south side stands the bell tower, whose lower level, vaulted in transverse cradle, is used as a chapel. The upper parts of this elongated tower have been restored or modified to different eras and have two berries for the bells. A pyramid arrow crowns the crenellated platform. Another Romanesque feature is the western wall, which has a semicircular gate with several rolls in its center. The south wall of the nave has a neat, small and irregular stone apparatus, which differs significantly from that of the apse, using different materials (limestone on one side and sandstone on the other). Although we can consider these two parts (the apse and the background) as romantes, it is likely that they were not built during the same period. A platform supported by an arc occupies the back of the nave and has a ironwork grid with small equal panels, decorated with a symmetrical filling formed by simple scrolls, without foliage.
