Canohès : Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte Church

A charter of donation to the Lagrasse monastery mentioned the alleu of "Kanoas" from the 10th century. Due to its distance from the monastery, this property was entrusted to a provost with large responsibilities: it took care of the collection of tithes and income, the management of decimal and seigneurial rights in the territories linked to the provost, as well as legal rights and military missions. In 1432, major repair work was carried out on the nave and the choir. In 1885, the building underwent an almost complete renovation, except for the apse which remained almost intact. The remains of the exterior and interior decoration of the apse suggest that it could date from the end of the 11th or the beginning of the 12th century. The foundations of the modern walls of the nave and the sacristy retain ancient foundations in pebbles, with, in particular in the south of the choir, a rounded structure which may have served as the basis for a turret or an absidioles. The small three arcaded bell tower, built in bricks on the rear wall, presents a classic architecture with fins and could have been erected in the 17th or 18th century, surmounted by a cut in cut metal.
