Description
Pinouse is a place rich in history and very symbolic: in addition to the importance of mining in the region from Antiquity until 1931, it was a crucial site for resistance. The Pinouse mine is in the commune of Valmanya, as well as the operations of Roque Jalère and the Rapaloum station. The Manerots site is located in the town of La Bastide, while a tunnel and a small house in the railway can be found in Saint-Marsal. Finally, the train station is in the town of Montbolo. The exploitation of iron in the Canigou region dates back to antiquity, experiencing an important boom with the Catalan forges until the end of the 19th century, followed by industrial exploitation in the 20th century. Pinouse is the most recognized mine of a set of farms that were active at the beginning of the 20th century.
