Description
Established in December 1939, the Rivesaltes camp consists of a dozen islets, each comprising about sixty brick barracks and light covers, arranged around a central courtyard and separated by barbed wire fences. This camp was intended for the internment of foreigners present in France during the start of the war. From November 1942, he became a base for German troops. In 1945, he changed function to accommodate German prisoners. Thereafter, he served as a training camp for the military. The General Council of Pyrénées-Orientales sold the site to the Languedoc-Roussillon regional council for the creation of a memorial museum on the camp, with a notification made on May 14, 2012.
