Description
The castle is built on a rock south of the Saint-Pierre castle, which allows it to control perspectives that the main castle cannot manage. The first mention of this place dates from 1109-1117. On the architectural level, it is a rare example of secondary fortification, perfectly homogeneous, which completes the monitoring system of the old border, made up of the large royal fortresses of the Corbières. At the bottom of the rock where Sabarda is in the north, the vestiges of the old Saint-André church are visible. This building is mentioned in 1011 in the bubble of Pope Serge IV, among the churches being part of the heritage of the Saint-Pierre de Fenouillet monastery.
