Description
Father Bernard de Mathan, from the parish of Anchretiéville-Saint-Victor, had made a promise to the Virgin: he undertook to install a statue in his honor where the paths crossed, if his village and its inhabitants escaped the ravages of the Second World War. Although the village has undergone bombings and men were mobilized, everyone has remained safe. This is how the abbot began taking measures in 1946 to honor his promise. His sister, Solange de Mathan, was close to Carlo Sarabezolles and his wife. It is probably through her that the priest contacted the artist for the creation of the statue. The letters of the artist, preserved, show that Carlo Sarrabezolle had already started working on this project in 1946 and had produced a plaster model which he kept in his workshop.
