Fréjus : Chapel Notre-Dame-de-Jerusalem, also known as Cocteau Chapel

Located in the Tour de Mare district, this private chapel was built in 1963 according to an octagonal plan on one level. Designed by Jean Cocteau in collaboration with the architect Jean TriqueNot de Cannes, the chapel has green sandstone walls with a regular arrangement. Its access is from the south through three wrought iron doors decorated with stained glass. The interior, surmounted by a dome illuminated by the zenithale light, is surrounded by a gallery with three arcades in arc on each side. The decoration was finalized by Edouard Dermit, adoptive son of Jean Cocteau, using the sketches left by the artist, died in October 1963. The ground is covered with a creation by Roger Pélissier, a ceramist from the Tower of Mare. Although its current use is mainly touristy, the chapel is protected because of its importance in the work of Jean Cocteau.
