Berrie : Remains of the priory of the Bas-Nudeil

This Benedictine priory, which is part of the Abbey of Bourgueil, was founded in 1076. The remains of the imposing church and monastic buildings, built around the middle of the 12th century, have not been restored since the 17th century. The chapter room was ceded to the Worcester museum (United States) in 1927. The Prioral Church consisted of a main nave with vaulted collaterals in cradle, a transept with a bell tower above the crossroads, and an abuted absidiole in oven ass on each arm. The choir was made up of an apse with an ambulatory which served three absidioles. There is only part of the northern arm of the choir ambulatory, on the north side, where the first trials of crusaders of warheads can be observed. These vaults have intersections without common key and cut each other. The vaults end suddenly in the walls without arcs formed. The batteries have carved capitals. This building constitutes an essential testimony of the transition between the Romanesque style and the Gothic style in the west of France.
