Celle-Lévescault : Filled Chapel

This Romanesque church was built in the 12th and 13th centuries on the site of an oratory dedicated to Saint Florance, which lived there between 360 and 367. For a long time, it served as a parish and a place of pilgrimage. A priory formed around the tomb of the Holy, probably at the end of the 11th century, and was attached to the Abbey of Nouaille. In 1618, this priory was associated with the Jesuit college in Poitiers up to around 1718, the year he was served by the parish priest of Celle-l'Evescault. In 1792, the estate and the church were sold as national goods and were disused. The restoration of the church took place in 1962. The chapel was backed by a house and has a nave with a flat bedside. The latter is pierced with a triplet. The south facade retains an example of typical Roman modillions which once surrounded the church, visible on the cornice. Inside, the nave is covered with a broken cradle vault. A large opening on the south side was probably the main entrance originally. On the side of the choir, on the right, is an ablutions swimming pool divided by two arcades resting on a column surmounted by a marquee. On the left, an infected houses the alleged tomb of Saint Florence.
