Description
The Benedictine Abbey of Charroux, which prospered a lot in the Middle Ages, was ravaged during the wars of religion and suffered a decline in the 16th and 17th centuries. During the Revolution, it was sold as a national property. At that time, a circular choir remained from the church surmounted by an octagonal tower, three naves, the lower level of the facade with a porch with three doors, and a square tower which dominated it. Subsequently, these remains were integrated into new constructions. Certain parts of the abbey buildings were also still present.
