Description
In 1597, René Descartes lost his mother. He was then placed in the care of his paternal grandmother and grew up in this house until he entered the Jesuit college in La Flèche in 1606. He returned to this house during his holidays at the college or the Law school of Poitiers, as well as in different moments of his life. After the death of his father, René Descartes inherited this house which he later sold to his brother. The house is built in tuffeau stone. The entrance consists of a small porch with an edge vault, allowing access to the interior by a courtyard that houses a well. A stone staircase, located against the porch, leads to the floors.
