Lathus-Saint-Rémy : Château du Cluzeau

The seigneury of Cluzeau depended on the Châtellenie of Montmorillon and was mentioned in documents from the beginning of the 14th century. The occupation of the site dates from at least the Romanesque era. Until the beginning of the 20th century, an imposing square dungeon with round foothills was visible in the courtyard, but it has been completely razed since. The north and west of the grounds of this dungeon are currently using a building built in the 14th and 15th centuries. Two large cylindrical defense towers flank the outdoor walls. On the courtyard side, another cylindrical tower houses a spiral staircase, accessible by a decorated door. Almost all openings are original and have their molded replacements. We can see some medieval chimneys, including a particularly large. A spiral staircase provides access to a network of undergrounds dug in the rock. This castle illustrates the reshaping of an old construction at the end of the Middle Ages.
