Chauvigny : Logis des Templiers

According to tradition, the knights of the temple have had two residences in Chauvigny: one in the upper part of the city, called the man's manor, and the other in the lower part, which still keeps the name of "temple". After the dissolution of the order, their property was transferred to the Hospitallers of Saint-Jean in Jerusalem. The outside of the building has been changed. The lower section seems to have been buried by one meter and has been equipped with modern openings. The left part of the facade probably had large windows of which only the start of the archivolt sustained by a cheek decorated with a head. In the large room on the ground floor, a painting was discovered under a layer of brush, but it was destroyed afterwards. Vaulted cellars with well -cut stone arcs are under the building. South of the manor, on the site of recent constructions, stood the doors that led to the outbuildings located at the rear.
