Descrizione
Il 21 giugno 1723, un fuoco devastava più di mille case a Châteaudun. Jules Hardouin, the manager of buildings, was responsible for rehabilitation. He has developed a street network plan, highlighting a large place where there are public buildings and houses arranged regularly. The place is rectangular in shape, with its length almost equivalent to the diagonal of the square built on the width. È circondato da negozi con portici. On each side of the square, four large buildings should exceed the alignment and be higher than the surrounding houses. Due di questi edifici esistono nella parte posteriore della piazza, uno è il municipio, costruito a pietra nel 1777. D'altra parte, i due grandi padiglioni previsti dall'altra parte non furono realizzati e furono sostituiti da un ufficio postale costruito nel 1900.
