Nîmes : Notre-Dame du Suffrage Church and Saint-Dominique

The church was designed in 1963 by the architect Joseph Massota, using concrete and glass, in response to the arrival of returnees following the signing of the Evian agreements in 1962. This almond -shaped building can accommodate 800 people and measures 47 meters long by 21 meters wide. The ground floor is dedicated to meeting rooms. Upstairs, the church has an oval space, without supports or visible openings. The ends of the oval end on two large glass panels measuring 1.20 meters wide and 8 meters high. The altar is in the center, surrounded by benches arranged in hemicycle. The structure is made of varnished wood. The baptistery has the shape of a polygonal entity attached on one side, symmetrical at the front door with its awning. The bell tower is independent of the church. The construction is based on staggered concrete blocks, forming a network whose interstices are filled with colorful windows, some of which can rotate to allow ventilation. The large glass panels were made by the painter Jean Gineyts. The stained glass of the baptistery was created by Dominique Gutherz, while the decoration of the Galeries on the ground floor is the work of Paule Pascal.
