Description
The convent was erected at the beginning of the 17th century, with the first mass celebrated in 1623. In 1806, the church became parish and underwent some modifications to respond to this new attribution. The sanctuary was enlarged from the sacristy, which was first located in a room behind the sanctuary. When this room was used for the orangery of the botanical garden, the sacristy was moved to the old chapel of the Child Jesus. In 1820, the convent and the cloister were transformed into a medical school, and in 1861, they became a museum of natural history. The building is characterized by a single nave with side chapels and a flat bedside. The novelty lies in the decor, where painting occupies an important place. Under the choir, a brick crypt, vaulted like a basket, has a north wall with fourteen niches on two levels. Three galleries of the old cloister are still visible, while a false gallery has been added to the north.
