The cathedral was built around 1100 by Bertrand de l'Isle, bishop of Comminges, and is surrounded by a cloister and a fortified enclosure. At the beginning of the 14th century, under the reign of Pope Clément V, the cathedral was enlarged in the Gothic style to accommodate a greater number of pilgrims. Around 1535, the roodle and the stalls were inaugurated. About in 1550, the organ was finished.
