Description
The Ayguesvives aqueduct is one of the most complete examples of the aqueducts of the "new drawing" or "Reformed drawing" in Vauban, as understood by engineers Niquet, Cailus and Minet. It was built between 1687 and 1689 by Dominique Gillade. The structure is almost intact, even if it underwent major renovations in the 19th century, which however did not alter its general appearance. The entry and exit wells are buried under the alluvial deposits, which makes their state unknown. The only significant modification of the building seems to be the replacement of the parapet of the canal side bridge with a metal barrier, as well as crowns of the entrance and exit wells.
