Description
The Languedoc canal, also known as the two seas communication channel, was built during the reign of Louis XIV according to the plans of engineer Pierre-Paul Riquet, handed over to Colbert in 1662. The works began in 1667 on the section of the canal connecting Toulouse to Naurouse. The first part of the canal was completed in 1672. After a few adjustments, the construction of the canal was completely completed at the end of 1682. The Saint-Ferréol dam, an impressive structure, is used to feed the Canal du Midi and is considered one of its wonders. This dam was designed by Riquet, then modified by Vauban.
