Description
The project selected during the 1913 competition for the construction of a commercial scholarship and a consular palace was carried out by the architect Adolphe Dervaux. This work, dating from the 1920s, presents a colonial oriental style influenced by a picturesque taste, particularly relevant to Sète, the main port to the Maghreb. However, its architecture is clearly modern, characterized by straight geometric shapes in the "Art Deco" style, which manifests through the significant use of canopies, ferronies, bas-reliefs and murals. The painted panels were made by Carlos Raymond. The reception of the project was entrusted to Mr. Barthélémy in 1926.
