Description
Established in 1629 by the prayers and the Benedictine nuns of the Calvary of Redon, this convent consists of four buildings surrounding a cloister adjoining north in the chapel. This, built in 1640 (as indicated by the pediment of its portal), houses two altarpieces classified as historic monuments. The cloister gallery is accessible directly from the nuns choir and the chapel. The southern side of the cloister, which was destroyed around 1830-1835, was rebuilt in 1875. Many arrangements were made in the 19th century, from 1820, when the Congregation of Retirement took possession of the convent, which had been transformed into a barracks during the Revolution, then in deposit for Spanish prisoners and finally into a family home. The entrance overlooking rue Saint-Michel was rebuilt according to a 1893 project carried out by the architect Mr. Leray, based in Redon.
