Description
In the Roussillon region, Barracas were a type of home often used seasonally. Thanks to their isothermal design and their adaptation to the environment, these structures fulfilled their initial role of habitat and work tool. The fishermen saw them as a natural extension of their boats on firm land. These barracas were manufactured by their owners with materials from nature, such as marshes reeds, Cannes de Provence, old boat masts, and later, with paved boxes and corrugated sheet when natural resources became less accessible.
