Angoustrine-Villeneuve-des-Escaldes : Former Saint-Martin chapel in Valls

The typical construction of Romanesque churches at the end of the 12th century. This chapel was linked to a small hospital intended for the shepherds transhuming their herds on the roads of Carlitt, the Bouillouses and the Capcir. It was served by Oblates under the supervision of a priest. She was the Espira monastery of Conflent, which exercised its authority. The chapel is oriented, with a single nave and a semi-circular apse. The western facade is crowned by a clocher with two slightly rounded arcatures. On the southern facade, a double-line arc door with double roll and salient frame allows you to enter the church. The set is built in granite and sandstone rubble, covered with lauzes in the shape of fish scales. The interior of the nave is covered by a broken cradle. At the back of the nave is a small forum accessible by a wooden staircase.
