Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer : Domaine du Rayol

In 1909, Alfred-Théodore Courmes, who was an explorer colonial and banker, acquired the land where he created the Domaine du Rayol. In 1910, he commissioned the construction of a first villa, designed in an eclectic style by the architect Guillaume Tronchet. It is attributed to Courmes himself the development of the park between 1910 and 1914. Between 1925 and 1927, at the request of Madame Courmes, a second villa, called Le Rayolet, was built by Tronchet in a neo-provençal style. In 1939, the estate was bought by the aircraft manufacturer Henry Poez, who immediately launched work with his architect Raoul Minjoz (author of the Villa Poez in Méaulte: see notice PA00116273). The first villa in 1910 is modified, while the Villa du Rayolet is enlarged and redeveloped inside in an Art Deco style. After the war, around 1950, Poez had the fisherman's pavilion built by Minjoz, located near the beach. In 1989, the estate, which was in an advanced state of abandonment, was bought by the Conservatoire de l'Espace Littoral and Lacustres Rivages. The 1925 villa is made of reinforced concrete, mixing regionalist and modernist elements with an Art Deco decoration.
