Description
Last Cistercian abbey of Poitou, affiliated with Clairvaux, it was founded around 1230. During the Hundred Years War, the abbey was occupied by mercenaries who fortified it. During the wars of religion, the buildings suffered from a lack of maintenance and some were burned. At the end of the 16th and early 17th century, the abbey was restored, including the abbey church, and a large part of the claustral buildings was rebuilt. At the beginning of the 18th century, the abbey still worked. However, at the end of the 18th century, it required important work that was interrupted by the Revolution. From 1791, it was sold to several owners who demolished it, notably the abbey church. The old 13th century refectory was divided into two levels in the 17th century. The medieval gateway store has been reshaped. The barn, which was probably once a hotel, dates back to the 13th century and was altered at the end of the Middle Ages and at the end of the 17th century, with a broken roof. The accommodation was built at the end of the 18th century and raised in the 19th century.
