Description
The basilica was built in 1884 according to the plans of the architect Perlat, which was then replaced by Alcide Boutaud. The nave and the side cloisters were completed in 1895, and the stained glass windows of the choir, made by master glassmaker Georges Lavergne, were installed. The altar was designed and manufactured by Georges Rouzeau. After the death of Father Jouanneau, the founder of the project, the work was definitively arrested in 1899. The basilica shows some of the processes employed by the architect Boutaud, such as the contrast between the interior and the exterior as well as the dematerialization of the walls. It has a single nave with a plan split on the ground and several side chapels. Outside, the basilica has a typical bell tower of the architect's style.
