Description
In 1774, after the death of Louis XV, Jean du Barry was forced to leave his post and was exiled in Paris. Then, he received a forgiveness and returned to Toulouse, where in 1776 he bought buildings and land against Saint-Raymond square. In 1777, he began to build a hotel which he wished to embellish to compete with Versailles. In 1794, after the death of the owner, the furniture was put on sale as a national property and the hotel was rented. In 1817, Benedictines settled in the building and renovated it. In 1905, he was attached to a high school for young girls. During the First World War, a military hospital was established on the spot. The complex is made up of three distinct constructions. On the right, the hotel has a facade decorated with seven windows. In the center is the "Maison du Barry", an old 17th century building adjoining the hotel. Finally, on the left, there is a last section built by Barry, with a large Venetian window on the first floor. Inside, the pieces are decorated with stucco, painting, gilding and ironwork.
