Description
The university was founded in 1350 by Pierre d'Aragon and was attached to the bishopric of Elne. During the annexation of Roussillon to France in 1659, the University of Perpignan became an actor of francization in this region. In 1760, the Count of Mailly built a new building which was used for teaching until the Revolution. This establishment included a botanical garden, a garden of shrubs, a public library, a museum of natural history, a physics cabinet and an anatomy amphitheater. In 1795, the university was replaced by the Central School. Since 1980, these buildings have housed the municipal archives. The set of the set is in the shape of a U, located in a triangular plot. The central part has a classic facade with a Tuscan order and a triangular pediment, flanked by two wings which were endowed with one floor in the 19th century. Inside, most original arrangements are still preserved.
