Description
In 1340, Jean de So, Viscount of Evol, had a strong defense castle built near Olette called "La Bastide" or "La Bastida Nova", in opposition to the already existing Evol castle. At the end of the 15th century, about a hundred people had gathered around this castle. However, the fortified village disappeared around 1635. In 1820, the owner of the Bastide decided to demolish everything, keeping only the two towers that still exist today. The castle consisted of a square structure with circular towers on the corners, two of which are still present. The residence was backed by the eastern wall, to the left of the entrance. The whole was surrounded by ditches, with an esplanade or a small garden in the middle.
