Description
The first French colony in America, Acadia, was founded at the beginning of the 17th century and became British in 1713. In 1755, the English decided to deport all the Acadians. Those who managed to go to France were involved in land clearing projects. The first Acadians arrived in Châtellerault in 1773. They built bauge farms there, a type of unfingaled land, with walls based on a base of flint rubble. The frames were made from surrounding woods. There are three standard models: one or two rooms with fireplace, a barn and an attic under the same roof, as well as an attic under the height with skylights for the passage of the fodder, and possibly some dependencies. The oldest house, numbered 1, was erected in 1773. Houses 9 and 10 are of the same type, and house number 10 was transformed into a museum of Acadia.
