Chalandray : Motte Castle

The first documented mention dates back to 1389. The castle includes a large rectangular building, with two cylindrical towers at the corners of the southern facade and a pentagonal staircase located in the middle of the opposite facade. Long sides have large windows decorated with delicate moldings which sometimes extend in several arcs on the lintel. The gables, at the base of the crawlers, display two sculptures of felines in the round. The interior has retained its original development. Each room has a fireplace, those of the building body being larger and decorated. The vertical circulation is done by a large staircase on a screw whose counter-brimes are dug in arcs of the circle to let the light pass. At the last landing is a small staircase leading to a room at the top of the cage, located in a cantilevered turret with a molded cheek. This castle illustrates a type of residence of the second half of the 15th century.
