Description
The Housing of the Chancel Islet was one of the few homes in Martinique in the 18th century to carry out three activities: sugar production, lime manufacturing and pottery. The pottery site is located by the sea on the western side of the islet. Many vestiges, such as walls, pipes and ovens, are still visible. The site is flanked by two large lime ovens, built near the sea to facilitate their diet and the cooling of lime after cooking. The one in the west has a spiral staircase which leads to the entrance to the oven, where the limestone and the fuel was loaded. The oven in the east, rectangular in shape, has a ramp in good condition. The negroes box is the only building still covered with tiles.
